😌 5 Things That Comfort Me

Every now and then — and especially this time of year, for some reason — I think about the things that bring me comfort in tough, sad, or anxious times. With an important election just weeks away, that’s likely why these things are surfacing now, but that’s okay.

So, what are some of the things that bring me comfort? Let’s have a look!

  1. Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate w/ Marshmallows: This has always been a warming, calming go-to for me, especially throughout the fall and winter months. I make it with almond milk and it’s just wonderful from smell to taste to that awesome warming feeling I get in my chest when I drink it.
  2. Big, Fluffy Blankets: I’ve been a sucker for a soft and comfy blanket my entire life. Wrapping myself in a blanket to calm down or warm up is one of my favorite things. It’s like a good hug, but softer! And when I add in a cup of hot chocolate, it’s the perfect combination — especially on a snowy day.
  3. Journaling: I’ve kept a journal of some sort since the age of 13. I’m much better at expressing myself in writing, so it’s a natural way for me to get thoughts out of my head. Plus, writing every day gives me the chance to document all the good things that happen, too. When I’m having a hard day, I go back and read about the good days.
  4. Puppy Cuddles: Dogs are my favorite people, hands-down. For me, nearly any bad day can be turned around with cuddles from my Finny. His fur brings me comfort, and he’s an absolute cuddle bug, which is just the best thing. He’s warming, calming, and loving, and those are great ingredients for optimal comfort.
  5. Nature Sounds: Known much more recently as “Green Noise,” the sounds of nature are one of my favorite things. Whether it’s being out in nature or using ambient tracks or a noise machine, I feel so much calmer and much more relaxed and focused when listening to something like a rainstorm or chirping birds.

These kinds of things are major players in my general comfort level. In a world that’s increasingly harder to live in, having a few things to fall back on is a necessity.
